HMRC Warn Of More Scam Emails
19/04/2010
As the new year gets underway, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is reminding taxpayers to be vigilant as scam emails have been reported.
A recent trick involves an email described as coming from ‘HMRC Online services – test’ which says the recipient has a new alert message.
The email asks readers to log into their online account to view the message, but the link in the email takes them to a fake website which asks visitors to hand over their passwords and account details.
HMRC has urged taxpayers not to visit the website concerned, and instead forward the email to phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk.
