Possible HMRC strike could affect tax deadline
08/01/2008
HMRC staff are being ballotted on whether to take strike action on
or before the 31 January tax return filing deadline, in protest against
job cuts and closures of tax offices.
As about 60% of staff voted in favour of strike action on the previous
such occasion, it is quite likely that this will go ahead. It may therefore
affect tax return filing and tax payments.
If you have not already sent us your tax return information, we would
therefore urge you to do it now. Things are hectic enough in the run-up
to the deadline without the additional complications of a strike! If
you wait too long, we simply won't be able to process your return until
after the deadline, and we can't be responsible for any penalty or
interest that might be charged.
