Barry Lewis speaks out against HMRC tactics
19/02/2007

Barry Lewis, senior partner at Harris Lipman, has recently spoken
out in Accountancy Age and other publications regarding the increasingly
aggressive stance taken by HM Revenue and Customs in attempting to
extend corporation tax enquiries into directors’ personal tax
affairs.
Barry believes that HM Revenue and Customs have gone from being a user-friendly
department into a zero-tolerance organisation, and are persecuting
the weak with scatter-gun tactics. HM Revenue and Customs deny that
they have changed their policy, but other tax advisers agree that in
many cases there is little justification for extending enquiries into
directors’ personal affairs.
