Increase in statutory annual leave entitlement
20/08/2007
From 1 October 2007 there will be an increase in statutory annual
paid leave entitlement from 4 weeks per annum to 4.8 weeks per annum.
This leave is inclusive of bank/public holidays. Therefore where an
employee works a standard 5 day week, then the statutory paid entitlement
increases from 20 days per year to 24 days per year.
Those companies who give less than 24 days including bank holidays
will have to increase the entitlement to 24. For example, if the present
holiday entitlement is 15 days plus 8 days bank holiday (total 23 days),
this will need to be increased by 1 day up to 24 days from the 1 October
2007.
Where the present holiday entitlement is 24 days or more including
bank holidays there will be no change.
Part-time staff should be included in the above on a pro rata basis.
If a company is increasing the entitlement because of the above, they
should notify the employees who are affected either by a circular notice
or in the pay advice advising what the increased entitlement is and
when it should be taken by.
