National Minimum Wage increased

The national minimum wage rate for workers aged 22 or over will increase from £5.05 per hour to £5.35 per hour from 1 October 2006.

The development rate (for workers aged 18-21 inclusive) will increase from £4.25 per hour to £4.45 per hour from 1 October 2006.

The development rate also applies to workers aged 22 or over receiving accredited training in the first 6 months of a new job with a new employer.

The minimum rate for workers aged 16-17, except for those still of compulsory school age and apprentices aged under 19 who have not completed their first year's apprenticeship, will increase from £3 per hour to £3.30 per hour from 1 October 2006.
