HM Revenue and Customs reconsider interventions

21/11/2006

HM Revenue and Customs have announced that they are to reconsider the controversial interventions scheme, which had received much criticism from taxpayers, advisers and business groups.

HM Revenue and Customs will now engage in a consultation process, which may result in the interventions approach being discontinued in favour of a different scheme, or redefined in order to make taxpayers aware that the letters are not part of a formal enquiry, and that there is no obligation to answer them.

In the meantime, if you do receive an intervention letter, please contact us for advice on how to deal with it.
