HM Revenue & Customs request greater disclosure regime powers
20/12/2006
HM Revenue & Customs have commenced a consultation exercise on
proposed new powers in relation to the disclosure regime for tax avoidance
schemes.
The new powers would enable them to request further information from
scheme promoters, where non-compliance is suspected. The consultation
document states that the powers would be effective, proportionate
and narrowly targeted.
This is a further example of the current general clampdown on tax avoidance.
In relation to this proposed measure, Dawn Primarolo stated "The
Government is determined to adopt a robust approach in countering avoidance."
