Taste Of Success For Harris Lipman

Growing London accountancy firm Harris Lipman has long had a taste for success – and is looking forward to a sweet relationship with new client Peggy Porschen Cakes.

Founded in 2004 by German-born Cordon Bleu chef Ms Porschen, the company has quickly gained a reputation for supplying some of the finest cakes around, providing chocolate Faberge Eggs for Elton John's White Tie and Tiara Ball, Stella McCartney’s wedding cake and cakes for movie premieres and parties for stars including Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna.

It is also a supplier to Fortnum & Mason, which has commissioned Peggy Porschen to create their seasonal ranges of hand-decorated cakes and cookies to adorn their shelves and hampers.

But the company is not resting on its laurels, and has ambitions to continue its expansion by doing more media and promotional work, increasing its online sales and possibly opening a shop.

Managing director Bryn Morrow said: “We had an accountant before, but we were looking for someone to take us to the next level and give us advice on how we can grow our business, as well as just looking after our accounts.

“The company is at a junction now – we’ve worked very hard over the past five years to get where we are and have one of the most respected brands in the sector, and we now need to look at how we can expand further and perhaps move into different areas, without losing sight of our core business.

“After meeting with Harris Lipman, we were sure they would do a good job for us – although we’re still a small company, they treated us with a lot of respect, and as we continue to expand, if we need additional accountancy services in the future, we know they’ll be able to provide them, so we won’t have to look elsewhere.

“The next stage is to draw up business plans and conduct feasibility studies into what we want to do, and Harris Lipman will advise us on different ways of getting finance and bringing in new investment.”

Harris Lipman partner Michael Bernstein said: “Peggy Porschen is a company that has done very well in recent years, and are now looking at ways in which they can develop their business without diluting their brand or spreading their efforts too thinly.

“The advantage they have is that there are a number of aspects to the business, and while it is well-known for producing cakes, there are perhaps other areas that are undersold, such as the cookery masterclasses they run, which can perhaps be promoted a bit more. I plan to meet with them regularly to share ideas, and advise them on the financial implications of the ideas they have.”
