Harris Lipman Shares Insolvency Expertise with Law Firms

04/07/2008

Harris Lipman’s senior partner Barry Lewis has given a valuable insight into the relationship between insolvency practitioners and solicitors at a meeting of a UK legal network.

Barry Lewis, a licensed insolvency practitioner (IP) since 1986, was invited to speak at the annual training event and conference of the Insolvency Network UK, which brings together solicitors with insolvency practices. It took place on 23-24 June at the Woodside Conference Centre, Kenilworth.

His presentation covered topics including understanding a statement of affairs – the document detailing the assets and liabilities of a debtor or company declaring insolvency – creditors’ meetings and maximising returns and wrongful trading, where directors allow a company to continue trading when they are aware that insolvency is unavoidable.

Delegates included Kevin Mitchell, insolvency manager at Isadore Goldman, a firm of solicitors in the City of London with a particular specialism in insolvency.

Kevin said: “Barry’s presentation was fantastic, combining complex technical expertise with great entertainment. His insight into the relationship between insolvency practitioners and lawyers – and what IPs want and don’t want from that relationship – was particularly valuable.”

Barry said: “I was delighted to have been asked to address the Insolvency Network UK members. Our respective professions have a shared interest in insolvency matters, so events such as this can only help to enhance our knowledge and build mutually beneficial relationships.”
