Harris Lipman Winner Chooses Charities for £1,000 Cash Boost
17/12/2008
Charities supporting medical research and animal welfare will share a £1,000 windfall, thanks to the latest winner of an in-house award at London chartered accountants Harris Lipman’s.
Each year, the firm presents the Solomon Lipman Award –- named after its founder – to the person whom colleagues consider to have demonstrated the most exceptional performance. This year, they voted for Joyce Feyzi, head cashier in the firm’s insolvency team. She said: “It was quite a shock. I think it was the first time I have ever been lost for words!”
Joyce, who joined the firm eight years ago, has the demanding task of keeping track of all the money paid out from each insolvency case handled by Harris Lipman. Colleagues who nominated Joyce described her as “always smiling and cheerful”, “always willing to help”, “a very conscientious team member” and someone who will make “every effort to assist colleagues in any way she can”.
Harris Lipman donates £1,000 to a charity or charities nominated by the winner, in recognition of their achievement. Joyce chose the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research, because cancer and heart conditions have affected people close to her, and the National Welfare Animal Trust.
She found her pet lurcher Gypsy at the trust’s Watford rescue centre two-and-a-half years ago and since then she has been transformed from what Joyce describes as a “nervous wreck” to a much-loved member of the family.
Harris Lipman partner Martin Atkins said: “Joyce is always professional and cheerful in her work, which makes life easier and more pleasant for her colleagues. We are delighted that the award has gone to such a worthy winner.”
The award commemorates the hard work and professionalism of Solomon Lipman, who founded the firm in 1954. It has since grown into a leading practice, tipped as “one to watch” in this year’s prestigious Accountancy Age magazine league table.
