Harris Lipman gets fundraising

24/01/2007

Harris Lipman have recently taken part in a series of fundraising activities in order to raise money for a number of selected charities.

Towards the end of last year, the firm organised a jam-packed day of fundraising which included the option for employees to pay to dress down for the day or alternatively to pay to see somebody dress up, such as Androulla who was sponsored to wear a wig all day. Joyce also added her own individual contribution by charging people 50p a time to make them a cup of coffee, whilst others members of the team brought in homemade food to sell such as cakes and biscuits. Other activities included a raffle, ten-pin bowling and a quiz.

On account of such team dedication, the Harris Lipman team collectively raised an impressive total of £600 which has been divided equally and donated to two equally important national charities; Children in Need and Parent Project UK. Children in Need is the annual appeal organised by the BBC which helps disadvantaged children and young people in the UK, whilst Parent Project UK, is a charity that exclusively funds research for a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Affecting an estimated one boy in every 3,000, DMD is a distressing disease which predominantly affects young males, triggering rapidly progressive muscle weakness which causes muscle wasting and often premature death.

Not only this, charity enthusiasts that they are, during the Christmas season the Harris Lipman team also decided to donate money to charity rather than giving out Christmas cards. This innovative idea resulted in the accumulation of £1000 which was subsequently split and distributed to three different charities; the North London hospice, the St Helena hospice and Tenovus. The North London and St Helena hospices both provide specialist palliative care while Tenovus is a British medical research charity dedicated to the curing of cancer.

Martin Atkins partner at Harris Lipman comments: "As a firm we feel that it is important to contribute to the wider community and we have therefore undertaken a number of fundraising initiatives over the past few months and have been delighted with the results.

"Everybody has got really involved in all of the schemes, getting their family members and friends to contribute as well, and we have therefore been able to raise quite considerable amounts. We have since donated the money to a number of specifically chosen charities that are quite close to all of our hearts for a variety of reasons."

Harris Lipman continually supports over 100 charities every year via donations, advertisements in charity magazines, charity golf days and various other fundraising activities.
